Out of the Grey : A Rags to Riches Challenge Story

The Rags to Riches Challenge is one of my favorite challenges to play because I can usually manage to play the family out without getting bored and quitting like I have done with long legacy/generational challenges or the 100 baby. I followed the rules posted here.

Here's Kyle Grey's Rags to Riches story:

Kyle had been struggling on his own for awhile when he got a bit of a break: a notice was given to him that he had inherited a piece of land in Brindleton Bay from his great-uncle.

However, he wouldn't be able to live there just yet. He had to complete a few tasks to get his building permit and get started on a structure. He went back to the city to wrap up some loose ends before setting to work.

It was recommended to him that Willow Creek would be a great place to study the skills he would need to build his home and future.

Lots of reading and studying...

… and collecting items that could be sold...

… and fishing.

Kyle basically slept when and where he could while he was figuring everything out.

While taking a chess game break with a local in Willow Creek, she shared with Kyle some opportunities in Oasis Spring and told him it was a much warmer place to be this time of year.

Kyle arrived in Oasis Springs and set out to explore the area and find some items to collect and sell, then headed to the local bar to make some connections.

Everyone in Oasis Springs was friendly to Kyle and he was happily surprised at how quickly he was accomplishing his goals.

While still working on things in Oasis Springs, Kyle met Hannah. They hit it off immediately and her friendship was much needed.

Hannah invited Kyle to spend the holidays with her at her home. They had a great time and promised to keep their friendship in tact after he left town.

A new family entertainment venue (bowling alley, movie theater, karaoke lounge, On Strike, on the Gallery!) opened up in Brindleton Bay where his property is, so Kyle headed back that way to do some work there.

The gig came with free snacks whenever he wanted as long as he was making repairs and maintaining the equipment in the venue.

The owner didn't realize that Kyle didn't actually have a roof over his head at the time, so she gave him the keys to the building so he could have shelter whenever needed.

The theater made for decent rest.

Kyle was finally able to get a small building to put together on his property. News like that just couldn't be delivered over the phone, so he made a trip back out to Oasis Springs on weekend to update Hannah.

His building was simple, but it was his.

Although things had started coming together for Kyle, being on his own and trying to work on building up his property was still tough.

So he was ecstatic when Hannah dropped into town for a surprise visit! He shared with her the news that he had enrolled in college and she may have been even more excited than he was.

There was no denying that there was definitely more than a friendship there.

When Kyle started building his house, Hannah came right back out to visit.

As if building up his property and going to college full time weren't enough, Kyle started a new job...

… and a garden.

Kyle studied hard...

… and worked even harder.

Finally it was time for his graduation and of course Hannah wouldn't miss it.

One excited dude.

Kyle was already advancing in his career upon his completion of his degree and things were beginning to stabilize for him. He knew what he was ready for next.

Kyle asked...

… Hannah said yes!

They didn't delay their nuptials and had a small wedding right there on his property.

Married life was good for Kyle and Hannah and they made a great team.

It wasn't too long into their marriage when Hannah had some news to share with Kyle.

Kyle started working even harder in the garden before and after work each day to prepare for the growth in their family.

He was even able to expand their home and renovate it to prepare it for the new addition.

Kyle was excited to put their first holiday decorations up together, since the holidays meant so much to them as a couple.

Kyle surprised Hannah with a nursery he had been putting together without letting her see what he was up to.

Soon, they welcomed baby Hyla!

Kyle was one proud dad.

Proud enough, that he wasn't nervous at all when the news of another baby was shared.

Little Hyla was growing fast and definitely a daddy's girl...

… who didn't take it too well when Kyle had to go to work.

Soon, Hyla would have her baby brother around... very soon.

Welcome baby Kannon!

When the next summer rolled around, Kyle and Hannah found themselves exhausted with taking care of two little ones.

However, they were amazing parents and were enjoying every moment with their family.

Kyle made sure to tuck the kids in at night even when he'd been out working in the garden and on his job all day.

Hyla and Kannon were growing fast, but Kyle's job was going so well he could afford to throw them some excellent birthday parties!

Not long after Kannon's birthday, Kyle and Hannah found out they were expecting another!

Kyle was getting almost to the top of his career and was able to expand their house even more and even build a pool for them to enjoy.

Welcome baby Halsey!

Halsey was a bit of a daddy's girl, just like Hyla. Kannon was closer to Hannah.

As Kyle headed out to work each day, he always had a smile on his face, proud of everything he was accomplishing...

… as well as a peaceful sleep in their comfortable home.

Kyle and Hannah's love for each other as their family grew just got stronger each day and they continued to make a great team.

Kyle and Hannah shared their love of the holidays with their children, sharing with them about the first holiday they spent together and how that started a wonderful story.

Time began to fly as Kyle finally reached the top of his career. Hyla was acing her university courses, Kannon almost ready to graduate from high school and Halsey getting ready to enter high school as well.
